Title: The emerging role of Occupational Therapy in Global Health
Abstract: Global Health is an emerging field, which Occupational Therapists have a legitimate role to fulfill. The role of the Occupational Therapist in low income countries will vary depending on whether an OT is working with an estabilished program, or where there is no rehab. Other variables in the role of OT includes location, resources within a community, cultural values, access to healthcare, and educational influences. Practical examples of OT in rural Uganda, and Manedero, Mexico will be shared.
Learner Outcomes:
- Understand how Occupational Therapy will look different in low income countries and across different regions of the world.
- Learn how Occupational Therapy can contribute to areas with no OT.
- Learn how Occupational Therapy can partner with organizations in low income countries.
- Learn practical applications of OT in rural Uganda and Maneadero, Mexico.
